Chrome extension
The Unclaw extension puts your companion in a Chrome side panel, next to whatever you are reading. She can see the page when you ask her to, answer out loud in her own voice, and do things in your browser on your behalf.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”The extension is not a standalone product. It is a window onto the companion already running on your machine, so:
- The Unclaw desktop app must be running on the same Mac. The extension finds it over your own computer’s loopback connection, nothing leaves the machine to reach her.
- Your setup carries over. Same character, same voice, same model, same conversation. Nothing to configure in the extension itself.
If the app is not running, the panel says so and waits. Start Unclaw and it connects on its own.
Opening the panel
Section titled “Opening the panel”Click the Unclaw icon in the Chrome toolbar. The panel opens on the side of the window and your character appears in it, live, the same render you see in the desktop app.
Closing the panel hands the character back to the desktop app. Only one surface shows her at a time, by design.
Asking about a page
Section titled “Asking about a page”Three ways, depending on what you want her to look at.
- Right-click anywhere and choose “Ask Unclaw”. What she receives depends on what you clicked: selected text comes through as text, a right-clicked image comes through as that image, and anywhere else sends a screenshot of what you are looking at. The panel opens if it was closed.
- Just ask. With the panel open, type or say “what am I looking at?” and she will take a look at the page herself.
- Keyboard shortcuts.
⌘⇧Uasks about the current selection by typing,⌘⇧Ldoes the same by voice. You can change both atchrome://extensions/shortcuts.
Talking
Section titled “Talking”The panel has the same voice controls as the app. Press the microphone to start; your speech is transcribed on your machine and sent when you finish a sentence, so you can keep talking without pressing anything between thoughts. Press it again to stop.
Her replies are muted by default in the panel, on the assumption that a browser tab is a shared-space kind of place. The speaker button in the corner turns her voice on.
Letting her act in your browser
Section titled “Letting her act in your browser”Ask for something that needs the browser and she will do it in your browser, in the tab you are looking at, signed in as you:
open YouTube and play some lofi
find the tracking number in this order confirmation
search for flights to Lisbon next Friday
She can read the page, take a screenshot, open sites, navigate, click, type, and switch tabs. Every action appears in the conversation as it happens, in italics, so you can watch what she is doing rather than guess.
Two boundaries worth knowing:
- Only while the panel is open. The panel is what performs the actions, so closing it ends her access to your browser. That is the consent boundary: no panel, no browser control.
- You are responsible for what you ask for. She acts with your logged-in sessions, which means she can do anything you can do, including things that spend money or send messages. Ask deliberately. See the Terms.
Privacy
Section titled “Privacy”The extension has no servers of its own. Page content, selections, and screenshots go to the Unclaw app on your machine, and from there to whichever AI provider you configured with your own account. Screenshots are sent for the question at hand and not stored. If you are signed in to an Unclaw account, conversation text syncs to that account so your history follows you between devices.

When something is not working
Section titled “When something is not working”- “Unclaw isn’t running”. The desktop app is closed, or still starting. Open it and wait for the character to appear.
- The panel is black. The character is being handed between surfaces. Give it a second; if it persists, close and reopen the panel.
- The microphone will not start. Chrome cannot show a permission prompt inside a side panel, so the extension opens a small tab to ask for the microphone once. Allow it there and voice works from then on.
- She cannot see a page. Some pages are off limits to every extension,
including
chrome://pages, the Chrome Web Store, and other extensions’ pages. She will tell you rather than guess.
